Une (autre) lumière

A work within a five-level route, created for the Graff’on Tour exhibition at the request of the Centre des monuments nationaux: an experience both intimate and disconcerting, plunging the visitor into an almost inconceivable world, so foreign is what it reveals.

For more than three centuries the tower served as a prison. Despite the cold, damp, hunger and overcrowding, some prisoners carved bas-reliefs of astonishing intensity. In the installation, a hidden room and a dozen of these old graffiti covered with a specially designed pigment; visitors, admitted in pairs, enter with black-light lamps and gradually reveal these buried traces — like murmurs rising from the dark.
